What are we doing?

If you were to come visit us now, you would find…NADA. Yep, you read that right, there are no buildings, no electricity, no running water (except the creeks of course), no nothing. So, what are we doing here? What is the project actually about?

Our main goal is to create an economically and environmentally sustainable community. That generic challenge could be split into three main blocks:

In the long run, we want to reforest (green), plant orchards (red) and build the community living space (orange) as seen below. The blue lines are the creeks running through the property.

The first goal is to establish base camp, a place where we can sleep, cook and take a shower. There is a natural ideal location for it next to the road (red star). For now, our neighbor Mauricio is letting us stay at his cabin nearby. But we can’t wait to build the first shelter in Babylon Gardens and move fully in!

Firstly, we don’t even have electricity in base camp yet (red star). The grid (yellow star) is 300 meters away. Yesterday was our official first day at work, we started installing poles every 15m to bring the cable home.

As I was finishing this post, the whole cabin starting mildly shaking, I wondered if Kris was trying the Backhoe outside, but it was a classic Costa Rican event; an earthquake, I better get used to those! I’ll take it as a sign to finish off here and thank you all for following our journey.
