The place

In the beginning, there was no precise place on the globe, and all were distant, nebulous, elusive dreams.

As soon as the place appeared, infinite in its details, but defined at last, all those dreams evolved gaining clarity and realism. Now they crowd against each other, running over each other, from their intangible fantasy underworld, into the here and now, the world of reality…

The truth is that deciding on the country was relatively simple. Concepts as dissimilar as nature, climate, democracy, happiness, criminality, education, peace, geography, customs, and language came into play, and using the old trick of discarding instead of searching, we ended up with a single participant on the list. So, in June 2017, we arrived in Costa Rica. I guess you already suspect it, but I will confirm it anyway: the country and its people instantly welcomed us with a big, big, Pura Vida hug.

OK. After that, why was it so difficult and time consuming to find the final “place”? First, because of the panic of an error. When you only have one cartridge, so to say, you cannot miss the shot. And secondly, because ambition often turns against us, we wanted it ALL:

• Clean, wild, abundant water all year round.
• Virgin forest all around.
• Fertile and arable land.
• Comfortable climate to live, and favorable to produce.
• Friendly neighbors aligned with our values.
• Not too close, not too far from civilization, and all that it entails.
• …and of course, an affordable price.

So, each condition is like a straight line in space. And we were looking for a point, where they all met… Finally, after 4 long years, with its advancements, its long pauses, and even its setbacks, we have found the place. I won’t lie: It wasn’t love at first sight. Maybe we were numb to the monotony of failure. But after going through the numbers again and again, finally reality exploded with full force: BINGO!!

And then, shortly after, the name came to us whispered in the morning breeze: Babylon Gardens, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. That is just what we want… and this will be the story.
